My warrior who couldn't open them 2 days ago opened all of them again just now. My Ranger, who opened them days before my warrior did is still out of luck. I really don't see a pattern.

Well I've just tried numerous characters (one who opened all the chests on the lunchtime after the last time they were reset was announced) and none of them can open them again. This is in contrast to a friend who is going round opening all of them with what seems to be any character he chooses...so...an explanation would be appreciated as to why some players are being "unfairly treated".

Here's another question then - did anyone check these chests in time since the first reset and the second time you opened the chests? Like, did you leave them completely alone for 30 days, or did you check and got nothing?

I am not sure when I last opened them, but I ran all my chars the past couple days and was able to get all of them. Except one char was only able to get the 2 on the island and nothing else.

Perhaps there is more than one condition that needs to be met before you can open the chests again.
Such as leveling up a certain amount.
The january reset could have been a patch that introduced several conditons to the chests manually reseting themselves.

The exact same chests? All of them?
I know that after the first "reset" there was 1 chest that was still empy, and that was the last chest I got the first time.

Just seems like its a certain time from when you opened that specific chest. lol the chest has a 1 month cool down.

From reading at all the posts, it seems like some of you can open it the third time while other can only one or none at all. Guess it's a bug gone bad?

Both times, first my ranger opened all chests 'in order', working his way from Istan to Torment, followed by my warrior doing the exact same routine. I haven't a clue how and when my other characters did it, but I'm 100% sure of those two.

Yeah, but I've tried many that I know I opened 1/20 and they still haven't reset for me, so it's more than that. Unfortunately, I'm out of thoughts (I track down the causes and repro steps of bugs every day, and my poor brain can't stop doing it no matter what I do, I keep trying to come up with possible factors!).

We've ruled out as factors:
-Finishing the game
-Character continent of origin
-1 month wait
-Times you've checked since last update (since people have checked and then checked again two days later and they've opened)

Still uncomfirmed possible factors:
-Experience gained between openings

How much have ya'll played those specific characters between then and now? Mostly I've been playing my characters that haven't opened many chests (such as my paragon) rather than the ones that opened most of them (mesmer and ele), so the experience thing could be a thought.

Then again, it's entirely possible that the factor is something random that we have no control over.

Here's another random thought, although I doubt it's it it doesn't hurt to ask. Do any of your characters that can open have any titles? It's a shot in the dark, but like I said, I can't stop trying to figure these things out. :P

Maybe your characters has to be active over 30 days period before you can reopen the chests?

I guess it depends on the meaning of "active" because I almost totally ignored my paragon for the past month, only logging on to transfer items in the gh; she was able to get every single treasure all 3 times.

I think I can help rule out the experience theory. I play my Mesmer almost exclusively. I have one other character, a Ritualist, that I've played for about 50 hours max. My Mesmer is somewhere around 600 I believe. I got the chests both times, went back the other day and couldn't get them again.

I used my paragon to test a few of the outstanding factors.

I opened all the chests on the 21st Jan.

Since then I've logged at least 1 hour, generally more a day in in game active time.

I've gained just over 900k experience during the time.

I've not attempted to open any of the chests/treasures/do not touch since I opened them on the 21st.

Not a single bloody chest opened for me this time.

My Elonian mesmer has opened them all twice, can't get the third yet. My paragon, however, was able to open them in Kourna and Vabbi, but not beyond that.

I dunno.

Well, I do have an answer sort of, but it might not help. Gaile said today in Kamadan ID1 that yes, they do reset, but that the reset is going to be different for different characters, and that she's not entirely sure how the designers have it set up. She did say that we may wish to head near the ones later in the game.

It's very possible (in fact, likely) that ANet hasn't set a date at all.

As for the chests, I could see them not making it very predictable just to keep us on our toes, but that might just be my michevious sense of humor sneaking out.
